5 Tips From Our CEO Anne To Better Our New Year

Written by Anne Bongo

As we enter a new year, let’s think about ways in which we can improve the well being of ourselves as well as those who surround us.

1. Be fair and do the right thing.

Situations at work or at home get tough at times, but we have to remember to listen to all sides before we make our judgement or act on the situation.  It is not always what it seems.  After giving the situation some thought, then you can make an informed decision to do the right thing.

2. Ask what would you do for a family, friend or a neighbor if they asked for help?

Sometimes we get so busy with work that we forget to give attention to our family, friend or neighbor.  When was the last time you asked to help a neighbor?  Sat down and gave quality time with a friend, or offered a family member to do something they have been wanting to do?  The best things in life are not always expensive. Sharing your time with someone is priceless.

3. Be grateful.

Whether it be work or home, it is best to be grateful for all of our blessings. Be grateful for a family who stay up late to see you when you get home.  Family who will enjoy eating the food that you cooked even if it didn’t taste so good.  For employees and colleagues who work very hard and make a difference in people’s lives everyday but don’t always get appreciated.  Like those who cook food at home and bring them to share with co-workers; for those who offer to assist you even when they are on break; for those who just sit and listen when you are venting about how much work you have to do.  We are grateful for you.

4. Create a workplace culture of self management & independence.

I teach Director of Nurses to learn to delegate and cross train employees in order to create an environment where they are able to help each other no matter what department they work at.  This gives them a sense of confidence to be able to manage different situations and be more independent.  I teach them to trust and encourage staff to be interdependent and work together as a team.  This provides a more positive environment to work at.

5. Find your personal happiness.

Find a work that you love to do, and you’ll never work a day in your life.”  Unknown author.  Happiness is doing what you love best, and when you are happy, it makes all the difference in the world. And if you have not found that job yet, find happiness in your life and focus on that everyday.  Maybe work is what made you discover that personal happiness at home, so that you are looking forward to it everyday.  Whatever it is, it’s yours, and no one can take it away from you.

Have a Happy New Year everyone - do what's right for you, and others around you.
